Care during hair loss

What options for care are available during hair loss?
Here, we will introduce methods for taking care of not only
your scalp but also your eyelashes and eyebrows.

Scalp care

Your scalp carries twice the amount of sebum as your face. While dependent on one’s physical condition, even without hair the scalp becomes dirty, so it is important to shampoo daily and keep the scalp clean.

Scalp massages and hair growth agents should be avoid during treatment as they encourage blood circulation and place added stress on the scalp. Scalp massages following treatment are effective for stimulating hair growth and should be started at an appropriate period.

There are cases of hair growing in gray or frizzy after finishing treatment with anticancer drugs. However, taking proper care of your scalp during hair loss helps the elasticity of your scalp return and works to eliminate these problems.

  • Selecting the ideal shampoo for your period of treatment

While baby shampoo is easy on the scalp, it lacks cleansing power making it a poor match for clearing away sebum. Facial cleanser is also not suitable for your sebum-rich scalp, as it contains numerous moisturizing ingredients. There are many shampoos specifically suited for this period, so we recommend you select one of these.

At Fortune Wigs we have a lineup of products that even those with sensitive scalps can use.

Wash hair gently with a soft foam

This product was developed based on
feedback from nurses working in the medical field!

As you lose your hair it becomes more difficult to create a lather with shampoo and wash your hair and scalp. What’s more, directly applying shampooing agents to the scalp when it is in a sensitive state is reported to cause pain and irritation in some patients. By washing with a generous amount of foam, you can easily and gently clean your scalp.

Makeup for eyebrows and eyelashes

During treatment with anticancer medication not just the head but also the eyebrows and eyelashes undergo hair loss. Here, we will teach you how to cover up lost eyebrows and eyelashes.

Makeup for eyebrows

Eyebrows can be drawn by a pencil. If you take a picture of your eybrows’ line before hair loss, it can be the refference after hair loss.

  • Before penciling in your eyebrows, let’s learn about proper balance.

    What are beautifully balanced eyebrows?

    1. The eyebrow should begin slightly inside of the inner corner of the eye.
    2. Position arch at approximately 2/3 the total length from the brow head. The brow arch should fit between the outer edge of the iris and corner of the eye.
    3. The brow tail should form a straight line with the corner of the eye and edge of the nostril. For a natural look draw at an angle towards the temples without dropping below the height of the brow head.

    • step01

Select the brow head, arch and tail according to the above instructions for “Beautifully balanced eyebrows”. Mark of the correct locations by placing dots with your eyebrow pencil.

    • step02

At approximately 1cm from the “brow head” begin penciling in your eyebrow until you reach the “brow arch”. For 3 color powders, select the middle one. For 2 color powders, mix the two together and apply.

    • step03

Continue moving towards the “brow tail”.
Here, you will use the middle and dark colors.

    • step04

After applying powder over the entire brow, you will then use a pencil as if to add in each hair one by one. Focusing on the light colored areas, add in color until uniform.
*As the brow tail is easily erased, make sure to pencil this in thoroughly.

    • step05

After doing the same to your other eyebrow the process is complete.

    Eyelash makeup

Eyelashes can be dealt with using eyeliner or false lashes.
Please be aware that the adhesive on false eyelashes may cause a rash if your immune system is weak. As eyelashes come off easily during hair loss, make sure to cut the lashes shorter than your eye-length before using. Please select an eyelash that is not too voluminous or long.
While eyelashes are also affected by medication, they can be expected to grow back at around 4 to 6 months following treatment; generally in the order of eyelashes, then eyebrows.

  • False eyelashes

*The adhesive used for attaching false eyelashes may cause irritation. Please use caution when experiencing delicate skin during treatment.

    • step01

There are numerous types of false eyelashes available on the market; however, make sure to choose one that matches the size and shape of your eyes. In some cases, you may need to cut the lashes. Please cut to a length slightly shorter than that of your eye.

    • step02

Apply the eyelash adhesive to the eyelashes.
      step01

    • step03

Place approximately 1mm above the rim of your eyelid.

    • step04

After doing the same to your other eyebrow the process is complete.

  • Eyeliner

Use eyeliner to create a more distinct impression with your eyes.

    • step01

Pencil in along the rim of the eyelid starting from the inner corner of the eye and moving towards the outer corner. [Point] *The secret is to draw the line slightly thicker from the center of the eyelid to its outer edge.

    • step02

After penciling in your other eye, the process is complete. [Point] Keep the size of your eyes the same by penciling carefully balanced lines.

    • Conceal with glasses and sunglasses

You can keep your eyebrows from standing out by concealing them with glasses or sunglasses. These will also prevent dust or dirt from getting in your eye and are essential on windy days. As they conceal your eyes, hair loss around your eyelashes is difficult to notice, and you can go out without having to worry about putting on makeup. Half tone sunglasses are also available allowing you to feel comfortable even when indoors.
